Travel guides

April 2007

In my opinion, the easiest way to make best use of your visit to any unknown city. Head to the nearest shop selling a picturised guide of the city. Combined with a map and you are good to go.

Palatine Hill

April 2007

The ruins of the Roman Forum. School children were holding books and deciphering how it looked before. They would never forget, I am sure.

La Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth)

April 2007
What can you say about Audrey Hepburn. Never have I loved her more than when she shrieks when Gregory Peck puts his hand in to the mouth of truth and pulls it out to reveal his hand missing. I learnt later that this was a real life practical joke played by Peck on Hepburn which they later incorporated into the movie.

Gladiator

April 2007
Outside the colossuem. He got a quick call on his mobile, but I missed that moment by seconds. Wonder if it would have been only me who would have found that picture ironical.

Aqueduct

April 2007

Signore stares. All these stupid people hovering around this useless structure that's been around forever. He waits...waits for the right moment. Keeps staring to disconcerting levels.. Finally makes his move. "Hai una sigaretta?" he asks.

The aqueducts, although famously associated with the Romans, were known to be around much earlier where people like our very own Harappans built sophisticated irrigation systems.
